At Auto Bolt we are always looking for opportunities to satisfy the needs of our customers, that's why we are currently working toward obtaining our IATF 16949 certification. Why is IATF 16949 Certification so important to us? It will ensure that automotive quality requirements are fully addressed to meet and exceed the needs and expectations of our customers.
To earn IATF 16949 Certification companies must go through an extensive audit. Companies must prove that the policies and procedures they have in place meet the Quality System Requirements. Some areas of focus include: Continuous Improvement, Risk Management, Product Safety, Contingency Planning, Defect Prevention, Waste Reduction, and Management of Sub-tier Suppliers.
Let's take a look at what each of these areas mean!
Always being better than yesterday, but not as good as tomorrow
Everyone’s ideas count
Can the improvement be applied to like situations?
Proactively plan for concerns before they happen
Look at all business aspects to include statutory, regulatory and Customer requirements, Acts of God, widespread sickness, etc.
Difficult without end-use design responsibility
As a Manufacturer to Customer requirements, all we can do is manufacture to those requirements
Use ISO and IATF certified suppliers to meet standards
Always manufacture to current industry standards unless otherwise requested
Diligently monitor, check, and test parts to ensure all features meet specification
Clearly define actions to assure Customer expectations are met when the preferred method is unavailable
Aspect of Risk Management
The ‘What’ that is being done systematically to make sure a known potential concern is not experienced
Automatic shutdown of process when a concern is experienced
It is not detection
Minimization of unplanned waste to include all aspects of the business from manufacturing process scrap through improperly formed product
Includes utilities, office and maintenance supplies, in-house efforts, etc.
Management of Sub-tier Suppliers
Suppliers are instrumental to your success; Help them, help you
Let them know when they are doing well and not just when performance slips
Help when you can to meet your requirements while letting them manage their own process
Change and Warranty Management
How you inform your Customer that you would like to manufacture differently than the original process
Can be temporary as in a contingency plan
We suggest approving the primary and secondary source at the onset of a long-term contract
Customer may or may not approve the change
Revision level of soft / hardware must change when updated
If a warranty is offered, how it is managed and analyzed.
